Amen! Maybe I'm biased since I've lived in the chemical city all my life and graduated from LSU, but we just don't need duplicate academic programs all over the state and so many different 4-year schools when our graduation/retention rates are still quite low.

Let's boost the flagship school, narrow the focus of the other universities in the state and solidify vocational options that the technical college system is providing. John Broussard

I can't agree more with JR's comments about the lack of leadership coming from the Mayor's office. Whether it's quashing Dwight Brashear's bold and progressive vision for public transportation (with BRAC piling on); or siding with the NIMBYs on the downtown library - Kip is acting more like a politician trying to get re-elected than a leader.

Both JR and fourx5 are right on target; Most of us middle-class and affluent whites are just not that interested in improving the lives of ALL Baton Rougeons and will deny that racism and classism are huge barriers to moving BR forward.

Why push forward with Project Green Light and a loop around Baton Rouge when cities across the country are solving their traffic problems by investing in public transportation, bikeways, etc.?? The cynic would say it's big money for developers and consultants who coincidentally contribute heavily to the mayor's race.

Let's hope our area officials will start acting like leaders instead of preachers/politicians.

keep up the good work!

It is stunning that noboby is talking about public transportation! Dwight Brashear had a bold vision to bring our city into the 21st century but it appears that the nay-sayers drove him away.

Let's put some real money into our public system and pursue a solution that could take lots of cars off the road, building capacity at the same time as reducing smog and pollution in the Capital City area!! John Broussard
