After 18 years at 801 North Blvd., Louisiana Mid-Continent Oil and Gas Association has moved down the street to the historic Standard Oil House at 730 North Blvd. The association bought the location for an undisclosed amount after the Baton Rouge Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, which leased the second floor of the two-story house, moved to Third and Laurel streets, says Larry Wall, LMOGA director of public affairs. LMOGA modernized the house while also preserving its historic integrity. According to local historian John Sykes, the Standard Oil House was built in 1920. Standard Oil (now ExxonMobil) first came to Baton Rouge in 1909. Favrot and Livaudais of New Orleans designed the house, which first served as the residence for refinery superintendents and later for company presidents.—Anna Thibodeaux
