Designer: Ryan McKnight of McKnight Landscape Architects
Size: 300 square feet
• Reclaimed wood covers the bucolic kitchen walls and the cabinets, which were designed and built by Shawn Burks of Antique Woods of Louisiana. Dugas designed his own two side tables himself with butcher block tops made out of old cypress tree trunks from the family’s farm.
• A Big Green Egg kamado grill, a cooking range and a gas grill line the back wall of the kitchen, and the entire section is covered by a commercial hood from Cayard’s. The couple also added a food prep area in the nearby garage.
• Architect Ryan McKnight incorporated Dugas’ wife Sandra’s more modern, industrial taste in the seating area with a large plastered fireplace as the focal point, complementing her husband’s rustic-style kitchen.
“Roland and I wanted to build an outdoor kitchen because we love entertaining family and friends. We especially enjoy watching LSU football games here with friends on Saturday nights. The fall and spring seasons are our favorite time to use it.”
