Blue report: A virtual Louisiana fundraiser for the Biden/Harris ticket has been slated for Tuesday, Sept. 15. The reception will feature vice presidential candidate Kamala Harris and U.S. Rep. Cedric Richmond, D-New Orleans. With Louisiana’s electoral votes being what they are, and COVID-19 not going away any time soon, this kind of virtual fundraising may become more commonplace during the final two months of the general cycle. Participation levels range from $500 to $50,000. Confirmed guests will receive more details from the Biden Victory Fund roughly 24 hours before the virtual event.
Red report: For the first time ever the Louisiana Sheriffs’ Association voted last week to endorse a presidential candidate—in this case the incumbent, President Donald Trump. Bucking tradition was no small task, and the group amended its bylaws to move forward with the historic vote. The sheriffs met virtually to discuss the decision.
Kanye report: In case you missed it or forgot it, rapper Kanye West has filed signatures to qualify for the presidential ballot in Louisiana under the banner of the Birthday Party. “I’m not running for president,” West said recently. “I’m walking.” That may be, but West’s campaign is also facing a handful of legal challenges in other states this week. No word yet if Yeezy will encounter any similar challenges here in the Bayou State. Meanwhile, it appears West will be on the ballot in Idaho, despite legal questions.
