As further proof that so-called “green” design is seeping into the mainstream [see “Built to last,” page 46], builder/architect Ken Jones and LEED-certified architect Phong Le have formed Sustainable Building Solutions, a one-stop-shop for the tree-huggingest building possible.
SBS will design-build a project from scratch or audit and retrofit an existing building, then follow up to make sure the building owner is getting the full benefit out of the features he or she paid for.
“It doesn’t help to just have a great building, you have to have educated building owners and operators,” Jones says.
The first two SBS projects will be a home in St. Francisville and Magnolia Assisted Living in Gonzales, but Jones and Le first worked on green issues when building the Foot Care Surgery Center near Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center. Some features they worked into those projects include:
