Holding on to houses: The number of foreclosure filings statewide dropped by 32.6% in January when compared with a year earlier. According to RealtyTrac, a company that follows foreclosed properties, one out of every 3,833 homes in the state received a foreclosure filing in January. That’s far below January’s national average, one foreclosure filing for every 466 U.S. homes. Louisiana ranked 42nd out of all the states and the District of Columbia for foreclosures, while Nevada was once again first, with one foreclosure for every 76 homes.
Hedging their bets: The political action committee of the local chapter of Associated Builders & Contractors says it is backing all three candidates in the special South Baton Rouge senate race. The ABC Pelican PAC says Laurinda Calongne, Dan Claitor or Lee Domingue would be an asset for the district and a voice for the group in the Senate. The primary election will be March 7.
Fueling up: A Shell gas station/convenience store in Baker changed hands twice Tuesday, selling both times for $1.3 million. Sullivan Oil sold the Express 1 Stop at the intersection of Main Street and Lavey Lane to Lavigne Oil Company of Hammond. Lavigne then sold the station to Sri Sai Lakshimi Properties of Prairieville. The new owners will continue operating the business as a gas station.
