Health Tip of the Week, sponsored by Baton Rouge General: Fear it’s the flu? When to see a doctor vs. riding it out

    Dr. Jacob Wood

You know the symptoms: achy, tired, high fever, sore throat and cough. But should you “ride it out” with extra fluids and rest, or see your doctor to prevent a turn for the worse? If your fever goes away only to worsen suddenly, if pain is concentrated in one area like your ear or chest, or if you’re still fighting symptoms after two weeks, see your doctor. If you are over 65, pregnant or have a chronic condition like asthma or diabetes, see your doctor as soon as symptoms appear.
