Eight organizations have submitted applications to run at least one charter school in East Baton Rouge Parish. The state Department of Education announced the list of groups that have filed to take over the failing schools, which are set to be transferred into the Recovery School District. One of the applicants, Advance Baton Rouge, already operates charter schools in the parish and in Pointe Coupee. Here is the list of applicants and the schools they want to take over:
Advance BR: Banks Elementary, Capitol Elementary, Dalton Elementary and Lanier Elementary.
Pelican Educational Foundation: Banks, Crestworth Middle and Kenilworth Middle.
Louisiana Scholars Inc.: Banks, Capitol, Dalton, Lanier and Park Elementary
Synesi Foundation: Banks, Capitol, Dalton, Lanier, Park, Capitol Middle, Crestworth and Kenilworth.
Community School for Apprenticeship Learning (CSAL): Capitol Elementary, Capitol Middle
EBR Charter School: Crestworth
Crestworth Learning Academy: Crestworth
Master Inc.: Capitol Middle
Local and national charter school experts will review the applications. The Department of Education will review the recommendations, then submit them BESE in time for the board’s March meeting.
