CBD health boutique expanding to Baton Rouge

A Houma health boutique specializing in CBD products is expanding to the Baton Rouge market with a new shop opening Monday on Highland Road by Airline Highway.
CBD, or cannabidiol, is a compound found in marijuana and hemp plants known for relieving pain, anxiety and depression. Unlike THC, the psychoactive compound found in marijuana, CBD does not make users “high,” and it’s gaining popularity across the country, with an estimated industry value of $1 billion. In June, the FDA approved the first drug with CBD for the treatment for severe epilepsy.
Because recreational marijuana is still illegal in Louisiana, the products Danny Poiencot stocks in his shop are derived from hemp.
“CBD is something everyone should have at their fingertips,” Poiencot says.
Located in the same shopping center as Albertsons Grocery and down the street from a Chick-fil-A, the shop will be the first in Baton Rouge that specializes in CBD products.
Poiencot says his best selling products are candies that allegedly help with anxiety, tinctures that go under the tongue, and heating and cooling sticks for pain relief. He carries 30 to 40 different products in his shops, including lotions, bath bombs, honey, chocolate, hair products and oils.
Since opening in Houma last October, sales have steadily increased and are currently around 30% to 40% higher than the first month open, Poiencot estimates. Many of his customers drive from Baton Rouge to the shop in Terrebonne Parish. His brother, Hunter, recently graduated from LSU and wanted to become more involved with the business, so Poiencot says he decided it was time to expand to the Capital Region.
His plans for expansion are far from over.
“I’m planning to take over the state,” Poiencot told Daily Report. “I want to put a shop in every parish.”
He discovered CBD after he graduated from high school and moved to California. He says he always struggled with a sleeping disorder and found when he smoked marijuana, he was able to go to sleep. He began researching CBD and learned about its forms and uses, and how to sell it legally.
