Training grant

Momentum-Netdesk, a training company, was awarded a $436,000 contract to train the United States Department of Agriculture National Finance Center on Microsoft technologies to prepare and assist in their migration from Novell to the Microsoft platform. Training will consist of private, tailored solutions on Microsoft network technologies, as well as open enrollment public training for Microsoft Office at the New Orleans office.

FAST treatment

FASTLane, Lane Regional Medical Center’s new after-hours walk-in clinic, is open on West Park Drive behind Medical Pharmacy. The clinic is open Saturdays, Sundays and holidays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. to take care of medical problems not severe enough for the emergency room. FASTLane also provides an in-house pharmacy to dispense medicines before the patient leaves the clinic and medical equipment such as crutches and splints.

Come together

Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center and St. Elizabeth Hospital partnered to create a new outpatient cancer center on La. 30, across from St. Elizabeth Hospital in Gonzales. The two organizations have launched a joint grassroots educational and early detection campaign. The new center in Gonzales will feature advanced technology supported by the medical physics team on staff at Mary Bird Perkins in a joint venture with LSU.

Superior sales

Superior Office Products placed first in the Central Region and national rankings for Xerox sales. The designation comes from more than $4.5 million in sales of Xerox products.

AWARDS/HONORS

The Capital Area CASA Association, an organization that trains community volunteers to advocate for the best interests of abused and neglected children in East Baton Rouge Parish, elected their 2008 members and officers. Included are Chairman David Faulk, Vice Chair Sean C. Malone, Treasurer Amy Crawford and Secretary Jennifer A. Hataway. Newly elected board members include Valerie Briggs Bargas, Sue Anne Cox, Shannon C. Gregoire, Kimberly LaMotte, Kara S. Michael, Debra M. Whitt and Sharon J. Witmer.

Lemle & Kelleher was named a 2008 Go-To Law Firm for litigation by Enbridge Energy Partners, Murphy Oil, Norfolk Southern and Regions Financial in an annual survey conducted by Corporate Council magazine, published by American Lawyer Media. The magazine asked the general council of the top 500 largest companies to name their “go-to” law firms in a variety of practice areas.

The Bluffs Country Club and Resort was ranked the No. 1 course designed by Ed Seay for Arnold Palmer and available public play in the February issue of Golf Digest. Since the article was written, the course has become a private country club.

Capital Region Builders Association announced the induction of builders Ray Kothe, of Kothe Contracting and Construction Management, and Kenneth Jones, of Jones Design/Builders, and associate member Dennis Smith, of Entergy Services, to its Hall of Fame.

Doug Diez, owner of Pelican Point Golf Club, was honored by the PGA of America for his extraordinary support and dedication of PGA player development programs. Pelican Point is a registered facility of the PGA’s Play Golf America, an industry-wide initiative designed to promote amateur player development and encourage participation in the game.

Postlethwaite & Netterville was named to A.M. Best’s 2008 List of Top 30 Audit Firms by Net Premiums Written in the property and casualty segment. This is the third consecutive year P&N was recognized.

Dr. Charles Williamson of the Williamson Eye Centers was honored with the Center of Excellence award from eyeonics inc., the developer of the crystalens. Recipients of the award have demonstrated superior clinical competence, are considered a nationally recognized leader of crystalens implantation, and are well-regarded by their peers.

Glen Duncan was named Practitioner of the Year by the Public Relations Association of Louisiana. He is the director of communications and a member of the management committee of the Pennington Biomedical Research Center. Duncan serves as an officer of the Southern Public Relations Federation and is a past president of the Advertising Federation of Greater Baton Rouge.

The Louisiana Retailers Association elected the 2008 Board of Directors. Representing Baton Rouge are Vice President Greg Ferrara of Associated Grocers, Treasurer Roger Mayes of Louisiana Nursery, Richard Clement of Clement Jewelry and Steve Moore of Sears Roebuck and Co.
