Nearly half the items the East Baton Rouge Parish Planning Commission will consider next month were deferred from November and December.
First, the commission will consider a pair of related proposals for a house on Highland Road to be turned into a bed and breakfast. Steven Romero with Bearing Point Properties is asking the commission to rezone The Broussard House—originally built in 1927 and near LSU Avenue—from single-family residential to medium density multifamily residential.
The proposal has drawn criticism from some community members online alleging the project would negatively affect the neighborhood and area property values. The proposal was originally slated to be considered earlier this month but Council member Jennifer Racca requested the item be deferred until January. The three-bedroom, three-bathroom home features antique cypress cabinets as well as a hand-painted mural of Paris and the Seine in the dining room, according to a former online listing for the property.
The commission will also consider a deferred request from Court Bradford with Bradford Engineering and Services, who requested more than 90 acres on Comite Road be rezoned from residential to heavy commercial use. The request, which was deferred by Council member Chauna Banks in November and the Planning Commission in December, is for the application of a special use permit.
The Planning Commission will meet at 5 p.m. Jan 19. See the full agenda.
