• Officials with the Louisiana Department of Health say the 6,754 new cases of COVID-19 reported today is the highest single-day total that did not include a backlog of cases. 

• The U.S. set two more devastating COVID-19 records as it counted down the hours to the end of what has been a calamitous year for the nation. On Tuesday, it recorded more than 3,700 new deaths linked to the virus, a chilling new high. The U.S. also reported the most hospitalizations, with more than 124,600 patients nationwide, according to the COVID Tracking Project. 

• The rollout of vaccines in the U.S. has gotten off to a slower-than-expected start, but the pace will pick up, federal health officials said in a news conference today. More than 14 million doses of the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines had been sent out across the country so far, up from 11.4 million on Monday morning. But just 2.1 million people had received their first dose as of Monday morning, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Read the full story from The New York Times.
