• More than 150 million people in 25 states including all of Louisiana are under a winter storm warning or winter weather advisory, the National Weather Service says. Hundreds of daily record low temperatures have been or will be broken during this prolonged polar plunge, the weather service says, “with some February and even all-time low temperature records in jeopardy,” USA Today reports.

• Authorities closed Interstate 10 in both directions from Baton Rouge to Lafayette early Monday morning due to icy conditions and multiple accidents. The closure in Baton Rouge starts at and includes the Mississippi River bridge, WAFB-TV reports. See a full list of road closures.

• Republic Services has suspended garbage and recyclable collections for today in the city of Baton Rouge, East Baton Rouge Parish, and the city of Central. Tuesday collections are still being determined. Services will resume on the next regularly scheduled day.

• City-Parish buildings will be closed today. Buildings were already scheduled to be closed Tuesday for the Mardi Gras holiday.

• The Capital Area Transit System has suspended bus service until Tuesday.
