Roundup: I-10 lane closures / Sears survives / School choice panel

Traffic jams: Overnight single lane closures will take place on I-10 from Highland Road to Old Jefferson Highway in Ascension Parish starting Thursday through next Wednesday, according to On the Greaux. There will only be one eastbound lane per direction closed at a time. See the full list of closure times.

Back from the brink: Billionaire Edward Lampert won a bankruptcy auction for Sears Holdings Corp., keeping the struggling department store chain from shutting its remaining stores, The Wall Street Journal reports.  Lampert, a hedge-fund manager who steered Sears into bankruptcy, prevailed by sweetening his offer to about $5.3 billion from $4.4 billion over several weeks of negotiations with Sears’s board and creditors. School choice: Parents, educators, and community leaders will participate in a panel discussion as part of National School Choice Week at 5 p.m. next Tuesday, Jan. 22, National School Choice week announced today.  The panel will feature Caroline Roemer, executive director of the Louisiana Association for Public Charter Schools, as well as representatives of online schools.
