Paramount Television, a division of the major Hollywood film studio Paramount Pictures, has selected Baton Rouge as the location for a new TV series that will begin filming here later this year.
Details about the series are still under wraps, and officials with the Baton Rouge Film Commission are unable to comment.
But Daily Report has confirmed with a source from close to the project that Paramount plans to shoot 10 episodes of the series at Celtic Studios, where it will lease three sound stages and office space, as well as on location at various spots around the city.
The deal, which has been in the works for months, was finalized earlier this month and is a major win for the Baton Rouge film community. Though the state has gradually recouped some of the business lost following legislative reforms in 2015 to the once-generous movie industry tax credit program, most of the recent work has gone to New Orleans.
Baton Rouge, which in the late 2000s was home to several major tent pole productions, has seen little of the action—and none from the likes of a major Hollywood motion picture studio like Paramount.
Though the series will be filmed in Baton Rouge, the city will not be identified as such in the storyline. But locals will likely recognize familiar sites like downtown streets and the City Park Lakes.
They might also recognize the main character, a well-known actress, who has yet to be identified.
Already, Paramount is beginning to advertise for crews to work on the series. It is also expected to file for tax credit incentives with Louisiana Economic Development but has not done so yet.
