BRAF secures $1M in Ida relief commitments

The Baton Rouge Area Foundation has secured $1 million in commitments for Hurricane Ida relief, a BRAF spokesperson says.

That total includes $850,000 in donations that have been received, BRAF’s Mukul Verma says.

The United Health Foundation, the philanthropic arm of UnitedHealth Group, has announced a $300,000 donation to BRAF as part of $1 million it spread to four regional Louisiana foundations. Office Depot has donated $50,000, Verma says.

BRAF will coordinate with community organizations to deliver aid to nonprofits that are helping people who were in Ida’s path, the foundation says. People and businesses can donate at BRAF.org

BRAF also is collaborating with Gov. John Bel Edwards’ office, the Greater New Orleans Foundation, the Bayou Community Foundation and the Northshore Community Foundation on the Hurricane Ida Relief Fund. The website is IdaResponse.org

The fund “gives us the flexibility and efficiency to give grants to those community foundations and nonprofits that are on the ground and already responding to the areas with the greatest needs,” Edwards says.
