In an effort to expand its Baton Rouge footprint, Anthem Bank plans to relocate its local branch this summer from Jefferson Highway to Perkins Road, filling the 3,500-square-foot space vacated by IberiaBank.
Anthem Bank paid $1.4 million for the building—which sits on a 2.8-acre lot across from Fresh Market in Perkins Rowe—in a deal that closed Friday. Hank Saurage and Beau Box were the co-listing agents, and Donnie Jarreau was the selling agent.
While the bank has for years operated at its current branch location in The Settlement at Bocage, Anthem Bank President and CEO Danny Strickland says the bank always intended to use it only as a temporary facility.
“It was time for us to invest in a facility that would better position Anthem to serve its customers as well as provide a platform for continued growth,” says Strickland, noting the new branch location, unlike the current one, includes a drive-thru. “We need to plant firmer roots in the Baton Rouge marketplace.”
Founded in 1915, the Plaquemine-based community bank—formerly known as First Financial Bank and Trust—now has five locations, including two in Louisiana. In the past decade, it has acquired the assets of Texas Country Bank in suburban Austin and has also expanded to Coral Gables, Florida. Anthem has total deposits of $115 million across all locations and $152 million in assets.
