Roundup: BREC investments / LSU student veterans / New Entergy meters

    Swingsets: BREC announced this morning it spent more than $12 million on 14 completed projects last year and 15 others in the planning phase. The funds went to new playgrounds, basketball courts, splash pads, fishing ponds, pavilions, drinking fountains, restrooms, walking trails and the addition of a zipline and adventure playground at the 72-acre addition to Howell Community Park.

    Salute: The LSU chapter of the Student Veterans of America has won the national award for the chapter of the year, besting more than 1,500 other universities, according to an email from Vice President of Student Affairs Kurt Keppler. LSU’s chapter was started five years ago, and recently opened a center on campus to better serve student veterans.

    Upgrades: Entergy is planning to upgrade Louisiana’s electric meters to better identify outages, save energy and provide faster customer service, the company announced Monday. The multi-year project is already underway and involves installing communications equipment on poles and adding new meters to homes and businesses starting in mid-February with projected completion by the end of 2021.
