Work is underway on a new 119-room Tru by Hilton hotel at Citiplace Court after a group of Lafayette developers received construction permits this week.
The $3.5 million, 50,000-square-foot hotel will be four stories and include a swimming pool and parking, says Patel Construction owner Pinu Patel. It will take around a year to be built and should be open by next summer.
“There’s a lot of hotels already here and it’s a new brand so we want to be closer to all those hotels,” Patel says. “It’ll be a good fit for this area.”
Rates will range from $119 to $159 per night. The Lafayette-based developers earlier this year bought the former Derek Chang’s Koto of Japan restaurant property at Citiplace, next to Barnes & Noble, for $1.6 million and demolished it to make way for the hotel. The property will be visible off Interstate 10.
Patel has completed around 30 other hotels throughout Louisiana, including several in Baton Rouge. Tru is a new brand by Hilton that launched last year to target younger travelers. The first Tru hotel opened earlier this year in Oklahoma, and Hilton forecasts another dozen openings this year and around 60 in 2018.
