Murphy Oil buys car wash, land in north Baton Rouge for new gas station

Murphy Oil Corp. is planning to build a new gas station and convenience store at the corner of U.S. 61 and Blount Road following its purchase of a car wash and vacant piece of land at the north Baton Rouge intersection for $750,000.
“I imagine they will start building soon,” says Austin Earhart of Beau Box Commercial Real Estate, who represented Murphy Oil in the deal.
The seller was Smuggy’s Corporation Inc., owner and operator the car wash, which has been closed. Matt Laborde, also with Beau Box, represented Smuggy’s in the deal. The car wash sits on about a half-acre of land, and Murphy Oil also purchased an adjoining tract of vacant land measuring about 1.3 acres.
Earhart says Murphy Oil has been eyeing the corner for about the past six months.
“There’s a lot of traffic that passes by there due to it being right off (Interstate) 110,” he says.
The intersection of U.S. 61 and Blount is located just a half mile from where I-110 merges onto U.S 61.
