Tuesday: Metro Councilman Scott Wilson will discuss his duties as mayor pro tem and the council’s role at the Ronald Reagan Newsmaker noon luncheon taking place at Café Américain, 7521 Jefferson Highway. Wilson is a Republican from Central who is beginning his third four-year term on the council. He is considered to be one of the council’s more conservative members. The lunch is sponsored by the Republican Party of East Baton Rouge Parish and the Louisiana Republican Assembly. It costs $17.50.
Friday: The Louisiana Small Business Development Center is offering a free workshop on how to start and finance a small business from 10 a.m. to noon at the Louisiana Tech Park, 7717 Florida Blvd. Topics to be discussed include determining the feasibility of a business idea, planning to start a small business, required licenses, writing a business plan, sources of funds for startups, expansion and small business resources. Saturday: First Financial of Baton Rouge, owned by Ameen Walker, is hosting a free boot camp on the ins and outs of running a successful business. The boot camp will take place at 9 a.m. at the Holiday Inn Express,10989 Siegen Holiday Circle. At the boot camp, participants will learn strategies and techniques to position their business for success, as well as receive tips and information on analyzing financials, budgeting, sales planning, waste and profit drains, documentation, and policies and procedures.
