On the Border Mexican Grill & Cantina at Citiplace is closing its doors after two decades in business in Baton Rouge. The restaurant’s last night open is tonight.
Tim Armour, kitchen manager for the restaurant, says the property owner decided to end the lease during an option period.
“They’re building a hotel next door and they feel like this land is worth a whole lot more to them as something else,” Armour says.
It’s unclear what will happen to the building, which is next to the planned Tru by Hilton hotel. A group of hotel developers bought the former Koto of Japan restaurant and demolished it to make way for the hotel.
Armour says the decision to end the lease with On the Border was made two weeks ago but was announced to employees today.
