Health Tip of the Week, sponsored by Baton Rouge General: Your child may have a concussion … what’s next?

Concussions are a form of traumatic brain injury resulting from a blow or jolt to the head or upper body, usually after a car crash, fall, or from a sports injury (particularly contact sports like football and soccer). One common misconception among athletes is that it’s okay to get back in the game after a suspected concussion. Your safest bet is to seek medical attention right after the incident. If you do not and your child remains alert and responding normally, the injury is likely mild. But if symptoms such as headaches, repeated vomiting, unsteadiness, ringing in the ears or confusion develop, seek immediate medical attention. Learn more about concussions.
