Discover the possibilities: Magnet Mania returns to EBR Schools

Sponsored by East Baton Rouge Parish School System

Families in East Baton Rouge Parish have a unique opportunity this fall to explore the innovative and diverse educational options available through the district’s Magnet Programs. With the return of Magnet Mania and the opening of the priority application period, now is the perfect time to learn how your child can benefit from a specialized, interest-driven education.

On Sunday, Oct. 5, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Louisiana Arts and Science Museum, 100 S. River Road, will host Magnet Mania – a free event where parents and students can meet representatives from many of the district’s 30 magnet programs.

Museum entry is free for the day, making it easy for families to discover the wide range of options, from STEM and visual/performing arts to foreign language immersion, pre-engineering, digital media and digital broadcast.

At Magnet Mania, families can ask questions, participate in hands-on demonstrations and get a feel for the unique themes that set each program apart. Whether your child is passionate about science, the arts or technology, there’s a magnet program designed to nurture their interests and talents.

Why choose a magnet program?

Magnet programs in the East Baton Rouge Parish School System are public, tuition-free, and open to all students living within the district. These programs offer a thematic, innovative curriculum woven into the standard academic requirements, providing students with hands-on learning experiences that foster excitement and achievement.

As Elizabeth Thomas, the district’s recruiter for Magnet Programs and a parent herself, shares, “Every day, my children come home excited about what they’re doing. They feel like they belong, are challenged, and are continuously growing – all thanks to the Magnet Programs.”

Application process and key dates

The priority application period opens on Oct. 6. Applying during this window gives families the best chance of securing a spot in their preferred program, especially at highly sought-after schools. The entire process can be completed online at EBRmagnet.org, where families can submit required documents and even sign applications electronically.

For those who prefer, documents can also be hand-delivered to the school of their first choice. Most programs require a recent report card, and some have additional academic requirements, such as a minimum GPA and test scores. Siblings of current students receive priority consideration, making it even more important to apply early.

Don’t miss this chance to give your child an educational experience tailored to their interests and strengths. Attend Magnet Mania on Oct. 5 and be ready to apply starting Oct. 6. For more information, visit EBRmagnet.org or call the Magnet Program Office at 225.922.5443.
