Planning Commission to consider several residential requests

The Planning Commission is set to consider several requests tied to planned residential developments at this afternoon’s meeting

Jason Labbe of Quality Engineering and Surveying is asking the Planning Commission to change the Comprehensive Land Use Plan for property on the south side of Burbank Drive from residential neighborhood to compact neighborhood for a new residential development. The land, nearly 22 acres in between Lee Drive and South Kenilworth Parkway, is also up for rezoning, and would be changed from rural to light commercial and limited residential. 

The commission will also consider three requests related to a proposed townhome development on Jefferson Highway, near Barringer Road. Rivera Town Homes would comprise 34 residential townhomes with 6.7 units per acre. One request asks for the property to be rezoned from light commercial, heavy commercial and off street parking to a townhouse district. 

Also among the items the Planning Commission will consider this afternoon is a proposal to reclassify nearly 20 acres of land on Perkins Road, near Siegen Lane, for mixed use. 

Stephen LeCour of L&L Land Survey submitted an application to change the conditional land use of the property at 13511 Perkins Road from residential neighborhood to mixed use. 

LeCour is also asking the commission to rezone a little more than 7 acres of the property from rural to light commercial. Planning Department staff is recommending the change to mixed use, and says in a separate staff report that the rezoning request meets the criteria for the change. 

The property is some of the last remaining undeveloped space on Perkins Road between Pecue and Siegen lanes, and the request was deferred from the June meeting. 

The meeting, which starts at 5 p.m., will be held via video conference. The meeting will be available for viewing at, on Metro 21 (Cox Channel 21) and on the City of Baton Rouge/Parish of East Baton Rouge Facebook page via Facebook Live.
