A convenience store that will house two quick service restaurants—a Great Steak and a Planet Smoothie—is being developed near the intersection of South Acadian Thruway and Broussard Street.
The steakhouse and smoothie shop will both open in October, says Bob Kirby of Saurage Rotenberg Commercial Real Estate, who helped Guru Kirpa Enterprises Inc. purchase the land, next to Jeff Cobb’s Auto Repair Shop, in July 2018. A gas station will also be located on the property.
On the Louisiana Secretary of State’s website, Guru’s registered agent is listed as Jay Gosain, and its officer as Harvinder Kumar.
“We had to go through the demolition of the old site and the design and permitting processes, but now the owner is excited to serve that community and the two schools in the area,” Kirby says.
It’s both chains’ first entries into Baton Rouge. Great Steak is a national franchise that serves cheesesteaks, specialty sandwiches, fries and baked potatoes, while Planet Smoothie will be opening its 19,259th store. Planet Smoothie’s only other Louisiana location, in Kenner, is temporarily closed.
Salco Construction broke ground on the 5,500-square-foot building earlier this year.
