Roundup: Walk-On’s heads to Georgia / Kids Count finds lagging scores / H&E revenues rise

    Roster expansion: Baton Rouge-based Walk-On’s Bistreaux & Bar recently announced plans to expand throughout Georgia with a specific focus in the greater Atlanta metro area, and is trying to find new franchisees. As a new restaurant concept in the market, the brand aims to open 20 new locations throughout the state over the next five years. Read the company announcement. 

    In the classroom: Louisiana is seeing improvement in several educational metrics, but these figures still fall below national averages, according to the Annie E. Casey Foundation 2019 Kids Count state profile. Just one example: The Daily Advertiser reports the state percentage of proficient fourth-grade readers increased from 18% in 2009 to 26% in 2017, but that is still lower than the national average of 35%.     Heavy lifting: H&E Equipment Services today announced results for the second quarter ended June 30, posting a revenue increase 7.5% to $333.6 million, compared to $310.4 million a year ago. H&E’s net income was $22.6 million in the second quarter compared to net income of $20.8 million a year ago. Read the full quarterly report.
