Roundup: Tech Park Academy / LMOGA board / Retail sales drop

A better presentation: Tech Park Academy, the monthly lunch-and-learn series from Nexus Louisiana Tech Park, will host “Presenting with Clarity: What Does it Take to Build and Deliver Standout Presentations?” on Thursday at 11:30 a.m. During this hourlong virtual event, Present Clearly founder Michael Roth will cover key strategies to communicate complex topics in simple terms. Board changes: The Louisiana Mid-Continent Oil and Gas Association recently announced the election of Lavelle D. Edmondson as chair and Selby Bush as vice-chair of its board of directors. Edmondson is director of state government and public affairs east for Marathon Petroleum Corp. and a longtime member and supporter of LMOGA. He succeeds Gloria Moncada, former ExxonMobil Baton Rouge Refinery manager, who served as chair of the association since 2019. 10/12 Industry Report has the full story.

Optimism for March: Americans spent less last month, partly due to bad weather in parts of the country that kept shoppers away from stores. Retail sales fell a seasonally adjusted 3% in February from the month before, the Commerce Department said this morning. The drop comes after retail sales soared in January as people spent the $600 stimulus checks sent at the end of last year. Economists expect retail sales to rise again in March as many Americans get $1,400 direct payments, part of a $1.9 trillion COVID-19 relief package that was signed into law last week. See the report.
