Roundup: ‘Business Report’ Editor awarded / College dropout rates / Ochsner’s new fundraiser

Honors: The American Planning Association’s Louisiana Chapter recognized Business Report editor Stephanie Riegel as Outstanding Journalist at its annual awards ceremony Thursday night for her reporting on community planning and her unique ability to explain complex urban development and environmental issues. Downtown Development District Executive Director Davis Rhorer also received an award for being an Outstanding Community Administrator for his role in the redevelopment of downtown.

Dropouts: A New York Times opinion piece by David Leonhardt and Sahil Chinoy addresses college dropout rates, and brings up data from Louisiana’s higher education systems. The piece posits that, because schools with similar students often have very different graduation rates, this suggests that the problem isn’t the students, it’s the colleges. Read the analysis about college drop out rates.

Healthy living: On June 6, Ochsner Health System is hosting Eat Fit Dine Out Day, where people can eat at participating restaurants to raise money for Ochsner’s Eat Fit program which aims to help promote healthy living and school programs. Participating restaurants in Baton Rouge include City Pork, Good Eats Kitchen, Serop’s Express, Reginelli’s Pizzeria, The Velvet Cactus, Tsunami and Mackie Shilstone GNC. Ochsner has more information.

Editor’s note: The offices of Business Report will be closed on Monday, May 27, in observance of Memorial Day. Daily Report will not be published and will return on Tuesday, May 28. Have a safe and happy holiday.
