Meeting series aims to connect Capital Region women entrepreneurs

NexusLA has launched Womentrepreneurs, a monthly meeting series designed to both connect female entrepreneurs in the Capital Region, as well as help women grow sizable businesses.

Launched last month, the meetings include entrepreneurial pitches, panel discussions and facilitated breakout conversations. The goal is to help women digest information on best practices to grow their businesses.

“I look around and see so much talent,” says Wendy Overton, NexusLA director of programs, adding she wants women to think strategically about their business and deeply about their financials. “Entrepreneurship has enormous potential to change the world, but there’s certain ingredients need to grow a business to scale.”

The next meeting, on Tuesday at the Unitarian Church of Baton Rouge on Goodwood Boulevard, will address the challenge of recruiting and keeping qualified employees.

After talking to area entrepreneurs, Overton found many women were scared to ask questions about growing their business.

“It’s hard to seek out help sometimes because so often in the business world you have to present yourself in a certain way,” Overton says. “We’re making this series safe so people can tackle issues in a productive way.”
