Developer Don Joffrion wants to build a single-tenant retail center off Perkins Road near Pennington Biomedical Research Center, according to an item up for consideration at tonight’s Planning Commission meeting.
In a request filed May 30, Joffrion asks the commission to rezone a slice of land within the Moss Side Place subdivision from “transition” to “light commercial” in order to develop 16,000 square feet of commercial retail space—which, he tells Daily Report, will be closer to 7,800 square feet.
Joffrion, whose Eagle Rock Development has owned the property for more than 20 years, says he’s been working for the past six months on a design-build for a retail tenant he declines to name.
“We’ll be making an announcement shortly,” says Joffrion, adding the project is still in its conceptual stage and neighboring businesses have been notified privately.
If approved tonight, the item must still be OK’d by the Metro Council before construction could begin in the next six months. The store would open another six months later.
The Planning Commission meets at 5 p.m. at City Hall, 222 St. Louis St. Check out the full meeting agenda.
