Baton Rouge unemployment claims continue to fall

    East Baton Rouge Parish continued to see declines in both initial and continued unemployment claims, according to the latest figures from the Louisiana Workforce Commission. 

    There were 6,760 total claims filed for the week ending Dec. 19, representing a nearly 4% decrease in total claims from the previous week. The nine-parish Capital Region and other larger-population parishes around the state saw similar percentage decreases in their unemployment claims as well. The Capital Region saw total claims fall more than 3% from the previous week. Meanwhile, Caddo Parish, which includes Shreveport, saw its total claims decrease more than 5%. Orleans Parish’s claims were about on par with the previous week, dropping only 0.6%.

    Statewide, there were nearly 73,400 unemployment claims filed for the week ending Dec. 19, a nearly 5% decrease from the previous week. 

    Over the past month, total claims have fallen nearly 22% in the Capital Region. Meanwhile, Orleans and Caddo parishes have seen their total unemployment claims fall 22% and 25%, respectively.
