Baton Rouge named ‘Tree City USA’ for second consecutive year

    For the second year in a row, Baton Rouge has earned the “Tree City USA” distinction from the Arbor Day Foundation. 

    The city joins some 3,400 other municipalities across the nation that has earned the distinction this year, and will soon install roadside signs downtown and near the Baton Rouge Metropolitan Airport celebrating the award. 

    Tree City USA status is awarded to municipalities that meet four standards of sound urban forestry management as outlined by the Arbor Day Foundation: 1) Maintaining a tree board or department 2) Having a community tree ordinance 3) Spending at least $2 per capita on urban forestry and 4) Celebrating Arbor Day.
