Why Burgersmith is closing this location

Lafayette-based Burgersmith will close its Siegen Lane restaurant at the end of May after more than 10 years in operation.

Company executives announced Monday that while the location has seen steady business over the years, the lease is set to expire, and the owners have opted not to renew it. Instead, they plan to close the restaurant and reinvest in the brand’s five remaining locations.

According to a company statement, resources will be redirected toward updating and improving restaurants in higher-demand areas, including Perkins Road, Highland Road, and Juban Crossing. Staff members at the Siegen Lane location have been offered positions at other Burgersmith locations.

“Current plans include expansion into new markets and other concepts,” says Burgersmith owner and founder Russ Unbricht in a prepared statement.

At the Perkins and Acadian location, the company plans to remodel the bathrooms and bar area, repaint, update fixtures, and enhance the patio. At Juban Crossing, the restaurant will receive new signage and a five-year lease extension.

The Siegen Lane location opened in 2014 as Burgersmith’s third restaurant and second in Baton Rouge. At the time, Unbricht told Daily Report the site was a strategic expansion, describing the area as a nice concentration of both commercial and residential business and far enough from the Perkins-Acadian location to serve another portion of Baton Rouge customers.
