High prices spur move: President Trump announced that the U.S. will temporarily allow up to 300,000 metric tons of additional ground beef imports over 90 days without higher tariff rates, saying the beef would be sold 25% below current market prices. The administration has also pursued other measures to lower prices, while ranchers and industry officials argue that rebuilding the domestic cattle herd is the most reliable long-term solution.
