Roundup: Tropical Storm Francine / Auto insurance cost / Flood insurance


    Weather alert: Tropical Storm Francine formed Monday morning in the Gulf of Mexico. The storm is expected to become better organized as it meanders over the warm waters of the Gulf, eventually strengthening into a hurricane before making landfall Wednesday evening along the Louisiana coast. 

    Louisianans hurting: Inflationary pressures on the auto insurance industry have been hitting the wallets of Louisiana residents hard. According to testimony from insurance policy makers at a House Committee on Insurance hearing Friday, the increased rates follow a trend of increased severity of claims. They say as costs for an insurance company increase, premiums for policyholders also rise. Read more from The Center Square. 

    Funding set to expire: The National Flood Insurance Program is set to expire at the end of the month unless Congress renews it yet again. In an interview with WBRZ-TV, U.S. Sen. John Kennedy said he is confident the program will win renewal but that he hopes that a more permanent funding stream can be found. Read more from WBRZ-TV
