Roundup: Fewer gamblers / American Airlines / US manufacturing momentum

Online survey findings: Gallup found that 45% of U.S. adults reported gambling in the past year, down from 64% in 2016, though a separate online survey put the figure at 53%. Lottery participation fell the most, dropping 18 percentage points, while casino gambling declined 12 points. The findings come as prediction markets and sports-betting sites expand, alongside growing concerns about gambling addiction, consumer debt and declining moral acceptance of gambling. Upgrades planned: American Airlines plans to add 4K seatback entertainment screens to new aircraft starting in 2028, while retrofitting its existing fleet so all cabins eventually have them. The upgrades will also include Bluetooth audio, USB-C charging, more first-class and extra-legroom seats and revamped business-class cabins. The move is part of CEO Robert Isom’s strategy to boost customer satisfaction, attract premium travelers and close American’s profit gap with rivals Delta and United. CNBC has the full story.

Factory output grows: U.S. industrial production rose 0.2% in July, marking a second straight monthly gain as manufacturing and utility output increased despite a decline in auto production. The gains, including a 1.9% jump in computer and electronics output, point to continued manufacturing momentum fueled by consumer demand, business investment and AI-related spending, though higher input costs and supply challenges remain.
