Louisiana lawmakers are taking a closer look at name, image and likeness deals—and this time, high school athletes are on the radar, Louisiana Illuminator writes.
A state task force is recommending major changes that would expand the legal definition of sports agents to anyone helping secure NIL deals for student-athletes, while requiring background checks and training through the attorney general’s office.
Draft legislation under discussion would add new protections for minors, including parental consent requirements, limits on the type of businesses allowed to sponsor teens, rules on NIL work during school hours and a mandate to deposit a portion of earnings into protected trust accounts.
Beyond high schools, the task force also wants universities to address Title IX concerns, tighten oversight of revenue sharing programs set to expand next year, and restrict international athletes from NIL deals until federal guidance arrives—with potential policies due by August 2026.
