Inside Southern Chicks’ first Baton Rouge location

Southern Chicks Cafe & Daiquiris has opened its first Baton Rouge franchise, 225 writes.

Located at 7112 Florida Boulevard, the restaurant marks the brand’s second Capital Region location following its 2016 debut in New Roads.

Founded by Angel Ewing, the eatery is known for its flavorful fried chicken and potent daiquiris. The new location brings a rustic Southern vibe, featuring burlap sack décor, distressed wood accents, and even coloring books for kids.

Franchise owner Brandon Bakare, a former Walmart pharmacist, says he was inspired to enter the food business during the pandemic and wanted to support a brand he believes in.

The menu includes bone-in chicken, jumbo tenders, and Southern staples like liver and onions, cracklings, and red beans. Drive-thru daiquiris—rare in north Baton Rouge—come in creative flavors like “Ruffled Feathers” and “Messy Chick.”

Focused on consistency and customer service, Bakare says the brand is eyeing future locations and possibly a food truck to meet growing demand.
