Hyundai Steel and Posco’s proposed steel mill in Ascension Parish is moving into a new phase, with the joint venture selecting Italian engineering firm Danieli as its technology partner, Steel Orbis reports.
The proposed plant will focus on producing high-quality automotive steel for the North American market and is expected to feature advanced low-emissions technology throughout the operation. Danieli will supply electric arc furnaces, slab casters, reheating furnaces and other steelmaking equipment designed to improve efficiency and reduce environmental impact, according to industry reports.
The facility will also include a 2.5 million-metric-ton direct reduction plant capable of producing both hot and cold direct reduced iron.
Company officials say the operation is being designed with future hydrogen use and carbon capture technology in mind, aligning the project with broader industrial decarbonization goals.
The investment further strengthens Louisiana’s position as a growing destination for advanced manufacturing, energy-intensive industry and next-generation steel production.
