How companies are redefining the role of middle management


    Despite predictions of their decline, middle managers remain vital to organizational success, but their role is undergoing a transformation, according to the Harvard Business Review.

    While AI and automation are eliminating some routine tasks, middle managers are increasingly critical in enabling agility, guiding digital transformation, and translating strategic vision into action. 

    As the authors write, researchers emphasize that middle managers uniquely connect frontline insights to senior leadership, motivate employee upskilling and supervise AI implementation. However, many companies underutilize these managers or promote them without assessing key coaching and coordination skills. 

    To remain competitive, businesses must redefine the role, prioritizing change facilitation and strategic thinking while investing in training.
