Cameron LNG project is back on after it was halted by a judge

Louisiana regulators have quietly reinstated a key permit for Commonwealth LNG, Louisiana Illuminator writes.

The permit clears the way for a new export facility in Cameron Parish—just weeks after a state judge suspended the project over climate and environmental justice concerns.

The Louisiana Department of Conservation and Energy issued fresh justification for its approval, concluding that promised economic benefits outweigh expected harm to wetlands, coastal communities and an already-crowded industrial corridor along the Southwest coast.

Environmental groups say the reissued permit blindsided the public and plaintiffs, who learned of the decision through news reports. Local advocates argue Cameron residents are shouldering the pollution, land loss and flood risk while high-paying jobs and tax benefits flow elsewhere. State officials counter that construction could employ up to 2,000 workers and bolster U.S. “energy dominance.”

Opponents are weighing next legal steps, warning the costs are becoming impossible to ignore: “How much is enough?”
