Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana Foundation announced the 2024 recipients of The Angel Award, two of whom are from the Capital Region.
The Angel Award recognizes Louisianans who have distinguished themselves by improving the health and lives of children in the state.
Kathy Coleman of Baton Rouge is the volunteer executive director of Grandparents Raising Grandchildren of Louisiana. It provides support and resources to families with children in the care of grandparents or other family besides parents.
Caryl Ewing of New Roads is a board member of the Pointe Coupee Early Childhood Coalition, which strives to ensure all young children in the area have access to high-quality education programs.
The other six award recipients are:
- Erin Davison, the CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwest Louisiana.
- Aaron Frumin, the founder and CEO of unCommon Construction.
- Kimberly Evans Novod, the founder of Saul’s Light, a nonprofit named in memory of her son.
- Hillary Sirmon, the founder of Miracles to Milestones, which honors the memory of her son, Benjamin.
- Dr. Annie W. Spell, a longtime volunteer and board member at Hearts of Hope.
- Jamon Turner, the founder of Just Believe Training.
The foundation will make a $30,000 grant to a local nonprofit chosen by each honoree to celebrate the award’s 30th anniversary.
The honorees will be celebrated at a special ceremony on Oct. 21 at the Manship Theatre.
