Argent LNG is proposing a new multibillion-dollar export terminal in Port Fourchon.
The 25 million-ton-per-year facility, announced Wednesday, would position the company among the largest U.S. LNG exporters, with plans to liquefy domestically sourced natural gas for global markets. The project would occupy 398 acres at Port Fourchon and include 12 modular liquefaction units using Baker Hughes technology, two LNG storage tanks and two deepwater berths for ships up to 260,000 cubic meters.
Argent LNG has entered the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission’s pre-filing process, which will assess environmental and socioeconomic impacts. CEO Jonathan Bass says the project represents a major investment in U.S. energy security and local job creation.
The company will host a community open house on Dec. 2 as the project enters federal review. The open house will take place from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Greater Lafourche Port Commission office.
