Roundup: Area road closures/ VW, Ford get together / Day care loses permit  

    Drive carefully: Officials will continue to monitor roads as Tropical Storm Barry continues its path towards Louisiana, but several areas have already been barricaded to prevent drivers from heading in to deep floodwaters over the weekend. WAFB-TV has a running list of the closures in Baton Rouge. 

    Alliance: Volkswagen will sink $2.6 billion into a Pittsburgh autonomous vehicle company that’s mostly owned by Ford as part of a broader partnership on electric and self-driving vehicles, the companies confirmed this morning. The two automakers will become equal owners of Argo AI, a robocar firm that was majority-owned by Ford, with plans to put autonomous vehicles on the roads in the U.S. and Europe. The deal also includes a plan for Ford to use VW’s modular electric vehicle underpinnings to build zero-emissions cars for the European market starting in 2023. Read the full story.  

    Revoked: The Louisiana Department of Education has revoked an Ascension Parish day care center’s license for failing to report that it left a child alone in a hot van. The department told news outlets that it revoked A-Z Kidzzone Daycare and Learning Center’s license on Thursday. Staff left the child alone in a van for an unknown amount of time last month. The girl managed to get out by herself. Read the full story.
