Construction has begun for phase two of construction at the Downtown Greenway, WBRZ-TV reports.
Crews will remove and relocate trees in the East and T.J. Jemison boulevards median in Expressway Park. Improvements include new trees, a bike path, pedestrian path and additional lighting. Upon completion of the $1.47 million project, the Downtown Greenway will connect pedestrians and bicyclists from the Mississippi Riverfront/Levee Trail to Expressway Park.
The project was funded by a federal Transportation Enhancement Program grant and is expected to be completed in the spring of 2020.
Additional plans to connect the Downtown Greenway to the Government Street bicycle-pedestrian improvements via Louisiana Avenue are also being developed.
