The tools available at Ascension Parish Library now range from books to podcasting equipment, 3D printers, laser cutters and a teaching kitchen.
Those resources are part of a broader mix of services focused on workforce development, small-business assistance and practical skills. In a recent interview with Ascension Business Report, Tyana Daquano of the library discussed how its programming has evolved with residents’ needs.
The library offers monthly business classes, workshops with the Louisiana Small Business Development Center and career fairs. A library card also provides access to online courses.
Learning a new skill is only part of the equation. The library is also working to connect residents who learn new skills with employers and other career opportunities.
Daquano said the broader goal is to keep the library relevant as a place where residents of all ages can learn, connect and participate in the community.
