Rise Hospital is expanding its Prairieville facility with a $5 million project that will nearly double the hospital’s size and add capacity to meet growing demand in Ascension Parish.
CEO Andy Davis tells Ascension Business Report the expansion will add about 8,000 square feet to the hospital’s existing 10,000-square-foot footprint, increasing the number of beds by 10 and creating more than 20 jobs. Construction is scheduled to begin Aug. 25, with the hospital expecting to begin treating patients in the expanded space by May 2027.
Davis says there are currently roughly 90 employees at the Prairieville facility, with approximately 50 as full-time equivalent workers.
“Rise has been around for about 10 years in Texas; we’ve been here in Louisiana for over a year since last May,” he says. “This expansion allows us to double our capacity at this site here in Prairieville.”
Rise opened the Prairieville hospital occupying the former Prairieville Family Hospital location, which closed after the state revoked its license. Davis says the hospital has treated more than 1,000 patients since opening in Louisiana and more than 30,000 patients systemwide.
The hospital serves as a licensed acute care hospital and emergency room while also specializing in non-narcotic, medically assisted treatment for patients with substance use disorders.
“Our focus is obviously being available to the community as an emergency room and a licensed hospital, but our medical team is focused on non-narcotic medically assisted treatment for those with substance abuse,” Davis says. “In many cases, not every patient, but that’s a key area of focus for us.”
Prairieville’s rapid growth and limited availability of the hospital’s specialized services made Ascension Parish an attractive market.
“It’s a growing community, and for the specialized services that we provide, there are very few resources that provide the specialized services that we offer,” Davis says.. “There’s clearly a need for our services, and we see an opportunity to help step in, fill that need, and partner with others in the community to care for our patients.”
The expansion will be built on a vacant 12-acre property adjacent to the existing hospital that Rise purchased earlier this year for $645,000.
“One thing that we’ve been very happy with is the number of people that have trusted us with their care since opening, and very quickly we realized that an expansion was needed to meet the demand in the region,” Davis says.
MKE Architects is serving as the project’s architect, while Buquet & LeBlanc is the contractor.
