This Ascension Parish child care and early learning facility just changed hands

A day care property in Prairieville recently was sold, as a child care and early learning center operator expands its footprint in Ascension Parish.

Shriver Enterprises LLC, represented by Jeffrey Shriver, purchased the site on La. 73 near Parc 73 Reception & Conference Center in Prairieville from Shulka Learning Academy Highway 73 LLC for $860,000, according to sales documents filed last week with the Ascension Parish Clerk of Court’s office.

Gabrielle Zia of Elifin brokered the deal for the buyer. Alex Ruch and Lindsay Redhead of Elifin represented the seller.

Shulka Learning Academy had previously purchased the property for $1.1 million in 2017.

St. Amant-based Golden Rule Daycare and Early Learning Center took over the 7,400-square-foot facility and began operating as Golden Rule Daycare Dutchtown as of April 23, according to owner Josie Berthelot. It was previously operating as Color Wheel Learning Center.

Golden Rule’s St. Amant location has been operating since 2000, founded by Denise Fontenot and René Denham. Berthelot and her husband, Christian Berthelot, acquired the business in 2022. The company earned Best of Ascension for Childcare Services recognition in 2024. Golden Rule Dutchtown is a separate entity, owned solely by Josie Berthelot.

She tells Daily Report that she kept the 15 Color Wheel employees to work at Golden Rule Dutchtown but expects to hire a few more.

“We had been looking around to extend where we’re at for a while now and this property kind of popped up,” Berthelot says. “It is also close to where we live and I wanted to extend the same great services into my part of Ascension.”
