Roundup: Parking in Denham Springs / Garbage pickup / Animal shelters

High ground: In Livingston Parish, the parking lots at Grey’s Creek Elementary, Juban Parc Elementary and Juban Parc Junior High have been opened to allow residents in the south Denham Springs area to relocate their vehicles to these “high-ground” areas, Livingston’s School Superintendent Joe Murphy announced. These three campuses did not take on water during the August 2016 flood. Grey’s Creek Elementary is located at the intersection of Hwy 1033 and Hwy 16, south of Denham Springs; and the two Juban Parc schools are located on Brown Road, across the street from one another, southeast of Denham Springs.

Trash: Due to severe weather conditions and road closures expected in association with Tropical Storm Barry, Waste Management will suspend all regular garbage collection services in South Louisiana on Saturday, July 13. Weather and road conditions permitting, all routes will resume their normally scheduled service starting on Monday, July 15.

Pet safety: Commissioner of Agriculture and Forestry Mike Strain is urging both pet and livestock owners to continue storm preparations not only for themselves but also their animals, advising that any livestock be moved to higher ground. The Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry has also set up an animal shelter to care for household pets in conjunction with the mega-shelter that is now open for citizens who have received evacuation assistance from the state.
